We'll be setting up as vendors at the first annual spring Oak City Comic Show, presented by Ultimate Comics at the Raleigh Hilton located at 3415 Wake Forest Rd. in the state capital! Doors are open from 10 AM - 5 PM on Sunday, March 1st, admission is just $5 (kids 10 and under are FREE), and the first 200 cosplayers through the door get in gratis as well!
Jermaine, Stephen and Jay announce the arrival of writer, artist, painter, Vertigo cornerstone and Eisner-award winner Jill Thompson to the sketch pavilion for Free Comic Book Day 2015, run through three big weeks of Comics at the Table, and check in on the happenings at the 2015 ComicsPRO Annual Meeting in Portland with special correspondent and Pittsburgh Comics owner Colin McMahon, all before mourning the passing of Leonard Nimoy as the news breaks.
Riley should really be guest or ghost writing the blog this week since he was the first of the Acme crew to notice Stephen Green and his talents at November's NC Comicon and subsequently invite him out for Free Comic Book Day 2015!
Stephen won the MTV Stan Lee "Seekers" Search back in 2011 and apprenticed under Sean Gordon Murphy while contributing to the Cafe Racer Kickstarter project and IDW's In the Dark horror anthology in 2014!
We're thrilled to have him out and going the crew in the sketch pavilion for the first time!
Also joining the Free Comic Book Day hullabaloo will be Trees artist Jason Howard! Jason knows a thing or two about epic FCBD festivities, having launched the Invincible-verse book Astounding Wolf-Man on the first Saturday in May back in 2007 and his second escapade with Robert Kirkman, Super Dinosaur, in 2011! Now that he's conspiring on Trees with Warren Ellis, we're thrilled that he has time to break away and come hang out with the New York Four, Emi, Ryan Browne and YOU on May 2nd!
Posting the first look a day early because 1) Jay and I are going on an expedition to comic shops in the eastern part of the state tomorrow to see what there is to see and 2) I can't wait to share our next Free Comic Book Day 2015 guest with you guys!
I first became aware of artist Emi Lenox back in 2011 when Comics Alliance posted a spotlight piece about her convention commissions, which then spurred me to seek out the first Image Comics collection of her continuing webcomic Emitown (volume two is out now as well). Over the years she's done guest work on Sweet Tooth for Vertigo, covers for Burn the Orphanage, interiors on Glory and posters for various bands and shows.
Thankfully we snapped her up for our event before her profile shot through the roof earlier this year when it was announced at Image Expo that her next projects will be the dark superhero pastiche Plutona with Jeff Lemire and a travelogue of her trip to Japan, Tadaima, both due out later this year.
...to bring you these very special announcements from DC and Marvel Comics! The revelations of Divergence and Secret Wars that came to light Friday morning were too big to ignore for eight days, so Jermaine, Stephen, Jay and John bring you this special report on the plans publishers' plans post-Convergence and on Battleworld!
