Acme E-Mail Update #13: Behold! Acme Comics...and this shall be your sign.

As most of you know by now, a good while ago our Acme Comics business sign was felled in the final moments of a freak hail storm that arose to mangle Irving Park. The winds blew like nothing I've ever seen here in all my years. One minute blowing horizontally to the left and then from out of nowhere it changed direction to the right which caused our beloved identification to come swinging down towards the sidewalk, hanging by a single bolt. Then, the storm's business completed, the skies parted and the sun shone as though nothing had happened. The scent of freshly cut wood from the damage done in Irving Park was thick in the air as we debated what to do. The sign would surely fall on someone overnight or be pulled down by some night stalker from one of the bars. Cool heads prevailed and the local fire department was called in to pull down the sign safely. And the rest most of you know. While we have been without our title and beacon to the world, I'd been making an effort to reach back in time for an artifact from a bygone era. And artifact that myself and others had been seeking for at least ten years. Good came from the demise of the old sign and now we are adorned with a better and brighter sign that restores the fabled Acme Bat character to the present day. So when you come in tomorrow or later in the week, be sure to look up and behold: Acme Comics, the Oldest and Largest Comic Shop in the Triad.

This week is a huge release week so please give us plenty of time to get everything processed and ready for you to get at. Our fingers are crossed that the delivery will come well before we open and we can have a head start for you. We'll have all three Avengers books which are Secret Invasion tie-ins, two Final Crisis tie-ins with Rogues Revenge #2 and Superman Beyond, and we'll have the most anticipated collecting since Brubaker's Captain America Omnibus and the Alias Omnibus...the Daredevil by Bendis Omnibus hardcover! Many of you have already read this material, but so many have not yet experienced it. You might like Daredevil, but after the Bendis stuff you'll love Matt Murdock.

We will also have two action figure offerings that I omitted from the This Week's Comics list due to scarcity. We'll have DC Heroes series 3, the Solomon Grundy Build-a-figure series. And we will have the San Diego Comicon Exclusive Marvel Select Skrull Elektra figure. We will only have a few so it'll be first come/ call-first serve.

We'll remind you again below, but we wanted to let you know that we WILL BE CLOSED on MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 1st, in observance of Labor Day. We'll be open again on Tuesday, September 2nd, at 10 AM, but because of the holiday new comics for next week will ship on Thursday, September 4th!

The Independent Section has been re-vamped once again, and this time we think we've got it pretty well tuned! We've made room for even more backstock, acquired another bookshelf to make room for oversized collections in the bay window, and re-alphabetized things for easier browsing! Once again, there's something for everyone in the indie section, so don't be afraid to bask in the natural light from the windows and search yourself or ask one of us for assistance!

Drawer boxes came back into stock last Thursday morning and they're moving, Moving, MOVING already! Of the 125 that we got in just 5 days ago, only 89 are left, and trust us, there are going to be some major plays by folks switching over their collections in the next week or two, so get them while they're here to be got! If you're a serious collector, you need these. You just do.

Of late everyone on the staff has been bouncing around the state and country, hitting up comic shops far and wide during their travels. They're usually open to looking for any items that customers have been hunting for, but in order to do that they need to know what you need! Feel free to let one of us know, cause we might be able to come across the book you've been looking for for years during our travel abroad! Acme Comics is on the case, even when we're off duty!
